Honolulu Ocean Safety Responds To Large Group After Vessel Runs Aground Off Waikīkī

On Sunday, March 3rd, Just before 3:30 p.m., Honolulu Ocean Safety, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Honolulu Fire Department and the Department of Land and Natural Resources responded to an approximate 90-foot sailboat which ran aground in distress in the spot know roughly 500 yards offshore Fort DeRussy in Waikīkī. Onboard the vessel were approximately 30 people. Many of the boaters began to jump into the water. Good Samaritans with two jet ski crews, ferried the group of adults from the vessel to another boat. That boat brought all of the adults to the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor. The incident took a couple of hours from the time the 911 was received, to the time all were safe onshore.
